Shalom at Work: Bridging the Sunday-Monday Gap

Abstract

This article describes the Sunday-Monday gap, the perception that one’s Sunday worship experience is unrelated to, or unhelpful in, one’s weekly work. It then applies Wolterstorff’s four-element definition of shalom to this issue, offering practical ways the pursuit of shalom might help individuals enact their faith in their vocation. Finally, it examines whether an individual’s pursuit of shalom at work is helpful or harmful to the organization’s overall performance.
